Teaching school students how to think …..
The most often cited piece of wisdom but the least actioned, is surely Margaret Mead’s,
“We need to be teaching children how to think and less of what to think”.
Teaching children how to think encourages skill-sets that are essential for making sense of, navigating and thriving in a rapidly shifting world. By increasing the focus on developing student’s ability in HOW to think, they can form their own better-reasoned opinions and make informed decisions, rather than simply accepting predetermined answers or ideologies.
The IMPACT of teaching students how to think ….
Our qualified deBono trainers in Australia, New Zealand & Mauritius are currently finalising a One Day Accreditation for school teachers in the Six Thinking Hats® for schools. This accreditation will allow current school-teachers to teach students how to think in colourful and engaging ways and to become a better thinkers. The methods taught will provide useful thinking tools that are easy to teach, to learn and remember. It is a tangible framework that makes thinking easier, more accessible and enjoyable.
In addition to the Six Thinking Hats®, the accreditation will include the Points of Views tools that will provide students from ages 8-18 with simple and memorable tools to aid in Planning, Prioritising, Assessing, Decision-Making, Consequential Thinking, Broad Scanning and Putting one’s self into the shoes of others.
The lessons will equip students to think critically about any situation, looking from multiple viewpoints, and considering the impact of change on the different variables within a situation. Of equal importance is that these tools can greatly enhance a student’s ability to address the wider academic demands of the school curriculum and life beyond.
Knowing how to think gets you better marks!
Schools with one or more accredited teachers may also promote their use of the thinking methods with students with the Official Six Thinking Hats® badge. An solid indication to prospective students and parents that the school is active in addressing Margaret Mead’s famous slice of wisdom.
