The answer to last week’s challenge is. Q: There are three sealed jars of apples. The first jar contains sour apples, the second contains sweet apples and the third contains a mixture of both. The problem is, the labels on the jars are wrong. With only one taste test allowed how can you tell what’s in each jar?

A: Take an apple out of the jar marked “Mixed”. If it is sweet, then this is the sweet jar (because you know the labels are wrong). Then go to the jar marked “Sour”. It can’t be sour or sweet so it has to be “Mixed”. The remaining jar must contain the “Sour” apples.
