This is because they are expected to be aware of one another’s needs that they should not need to ask. How do they get around this prohibition if they want some salt?

A: If a nun wants the salt she asks another nun nearest the salt is she would like some pepper, which is near the first nun. The second nun would reply “No, but would you like some salt”?
