Mental Floss 99
The answer to last week’s challenge is Q: You are on an island in the middle of a lake. The lake is in a remote part of the country and there has never been a bridge connecting the island to the mainland. Every day a tractor and wagon gives hay rides around the island. Puzzled as to how the tractor had gotten onto the island, you ask around and find out that the tractor was not transported to the island by boat or by air. Nor was it built on the island. Can you explain how the tractor got there?
A: The tractor was driven onto the island over the ice when the lake was frozen.
This week’s thinking challenge is …
Q: A building is being prepared for opening. People are decorating the building with 12 flags. At first they arrange the flags 4 to a side, as shown, but then they see that the flags can be arranged 5 to a side using only 12 flags. How?
We are pleased to announce that we have now locked in our next Six Thinking Hats public training session for Melbourne on July 26.
